'Tis the season to be jolly!

 By David Rees

Whether we love them or loathe them there is no getting away from Christmas carols at this time of year! In fact, it’s the only time of year you’ll hear lyrics like ‘Remember, Christ, our Saviour was born on Christmas Day to save us all from Satan's power when we were gone astray’ blaring out in Tesco while we do our final mad dash around the shop for the biggest turkey!

Each year Grace Church embraces this opportunity to share the good news of Jesus’ birth by singing carols outside the Tesco store in Kingston. And customers' delighted faces told us there was no shortage of good cheer this year; there’s nothing like a burst of ‘Silent Night’ to soothe those busy shoppers! It’s great to be able to lighten the atmosphere at this hectic time of the year.

We also took the opportunity to fund raise on behalf of a local community group which I help out with. MK Prospects aims to support people with learning disabilities in their relationship with God and with the church. They meet once a month at Christ the Vine Church on Coffee Hall. You can find out more here: www.mkprospects.org.uk. Thanks to the generous people of Milton Keynes we are pleased to have raised over £100 for them this year.

We’ll be getting in the festive mood again at our Family Carol Service on Sunday 21st December, 10:30am at Middleton Primary School. Please don’t miss this opportunity to receive and celebrate the ‘tidings of comfort and joy’ that Jesus offers to all who’ll receive him.

Ready for Christmas?

 By Nic Andrews

We all have different ways of preparing for Christmas. Some people love to have every present wrapped by 1st December, while there are others who confidently hold to the belief that 4.30pm on Christmas Eve is the optimum time to get started! I’m happy to say we began early at Grace Church with our recent children’s Christmas craft morning.

Building on the success of our children’s craft-making event for Mother’s Day, we brought together a bunch of local children (aged 2 to 8) for a very merry and creative time! The children were wonderfully productive, each making half-a-dozen different gifts to the delight of parents and helpers. These ranged from snowman shakers to stained glass-effect nativity scenes, with each child collecting their creations in a gift bag decorated with Santa’s face. Ho ho ho!

As part of our time together the children also made a frieze telling the Christmas story, and during a break Beccy read the story aloud so we could all see how Mary and Joseph were used by God to prepare the way for his Son to come to earth to save humanity. They were ordinary people, just like us, who trusted God.

A big thank you goes to Beccy and her mum, Sue, for their superb organisation and creative ingenuity that kept the children enthralled and enthusiastic throughout. The free events we run as a church are a great opportunity for people from Grace Church to make friends with people from the local community. Before the year ends we have another chance to impact our friends and family with the amazing truth of Jesus’ birth together. Please think and pray about who you could bring along to our Christmas carol service on 21st December at 10.30am. Let's try and add to the number who'll be coming to adore him!
